Further Mathematics Edexcel (9FMO)
WHAT THIS COURSE OFFERS YOU
- It is a challenging qualification, which both extends and deepens your knowledge and understanding beyond the standard A-level Mathematics.
- This course extends topics covered in A-level Mathematics such as Calculus, Numerical Methods and Vectors, it also broadens your mathematical horizons by introducing topics such as Complex Numbers, Matrices, Hyperbolics and Proof.
- As well as learning new areas of pure mathematics, you will study further applications of mathematics in mechanics, statistics and decision mathematics.
- It makes the transition from Sixth Form to university courses that are mathematically rich that much easier, as more of the first year course content will be familiar.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS
- 5 GCSE passes at G4 or higher.
- G7 or above in GCSE Maths.
- Over 60% in the Mathematics & Further Mathematics baseline entry tests, taken in the Sixth Form Induction Week in September.
ASSESSMENT / CORE MODULES
- Paper 1 – Pure Further Mathematics 1 – 1.5 hour paper – 25%
- Paper 2 – Pure Further Mathematics 2 – 1.5 hour paper – 25%
- Paper 3 – Further Mathematics Option 1 – 1.5 hour paper – 25%
- Paper 4 – Further Mathematics Option 2 – 1.5 hour paper – 25%
- Options: Further Pure Mathematics, Further Statistics, Further Mechanics and Decision Mathematics
- This Further Mathematics course is a 2-year linear course.
