Faith and Service

At Maria Fidelis, our school motto “Fidelity” translates as “Faithfulness”.   Guiding all that we do, our belief is that God is always with us, in each moment of our lives.

All pupils are encouraged to give of themselves; their time, their energy, their gifts and talents in the service of others. Our chaplaincy model is one of collaboration and community. Chaplaincy is an integral part of the life and work of Maria Fidelis Catholic School FCJ, a place where young people can grow in faith, courage and confidence. Its purpose is to support the spiritual development of both pupils and staff and to encourage discipleship throughout our school community. This inspires them to live out our school values of Excellence, Companionship, Dignity, Gentleness, Hope and Justice. Our chaplaincy team works to inspire young people to become women and men who live in ways that will benefit others as well as themselves; to grow to be young people who will use their gifts and talents to make the world a better place. Our young people play a valuable part in the world in which they live, and we are honoured to walk alongside them as they learn to channel their potential and dream of all the God-given possibilities open to them. We facilitate spiritual reflection, promote and encourage spiritual awareness, and accompany our pupils as they seek to deepen their spiritual lives. We support our pupils to develop a life-long personal faith, based on their own convictions and life experiences.

Our vibrant assemblies are focused on deepening our relationship with God and are provided by the Headteacher, Senior Leaders, Heads of Year, Sixth Form Leadership Team or delivered by Tutor Groups themselves.  Scripture and prayer are central to each assembly given. Year assemblies, which are pupil-led are held each week following the school’s liturgical calendar.  Throughout Lent and Advent, year groups have liturgies based on the particular season. Other regular areas of focus include assemblies and liturgies based on Remembrance, Holocaust Memorial Day, Mental Health Awareness, and other themes.  In addition, outside speakers from various charities and organisations, such as CAFOD and The Passage, are invited to present assemblies, often linked to special projects or fundraising.
